Simon Doherty BVMS CertAqV CBiol FRSB FHEA ARAgS FRCVS
Based at the Institute of Global Food Security, Queen’s University Belfast (QUB), Simon is a veterinarian with interests in livestock health & welfare, One Health & sustainability, and international trade & investment in the animal health & veterinary sectors.
As a Senior Lecturer (Education), Simon teaches across a variety of programmes including Agricultural Technology, Animal Behaviour & Welfare, Zoology, Food Safety Quality & Nutrition, and Environmental Management & Conservation Biology. He is co-lead for the QUB Microbiome, AMR & One Health Lab.
Prior to his presidency of the British Veterinary Association in 2018-19, he was Animal Health & Aquaculture Sector Specialist for the Department for International Trade and has experience in veterinary practice, industry, academia and professional representation. He is a GlobalScot.
Simon was a Founding Director of Vet Sustain and has held a number of committee roles at the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe. Simon was recently awarded the 2024 Global Veterinary Award for One Health by the World Veterinary Association.
